The impression we had after reading about the famous Moeraki Boulders between Dunedin and Christchurch was that they were very large and spherical. The description was correct about their shape but in reality, they were only about mid-thigh in height. It was a big surprise. Maori legend claims that they were the food baskets of one of the ancestral canoes that brought the Maoris to New Zealand from Hawaiki. |
